Ontario’s Chaffey High School has made it four in a row at the San Bernardino County Academic Decathlon.
Chaffey High’s Team Black won this year’s competition, it was announced Thursday, Feb. 6, at the 42nd annual awards ceremony hosted by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.

The squad will now move to the California Academic Decathlon in Santa Clara from March 20 to March 23.
This year’s theme is “Our Changing Climate.” County competition featured more than 250 students from 15 high schools.
Finishing second was Rancho Cucamonga High School’s Team Purple, which like Chaffey is part of the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.
Fontana’s Summit High School Team Silver finished third.
The award for the highest-scoring student from the winning team went to Chaffey senior Arielle Jett, who earned 8,967 points out of a possible 10,000, a county schools news release states.
In addition to being named as the first-place team, Chaffey High’s Team Black also won awards in seven team events plus the Super Quiz.
At-large invitations to the state contest also were sent to Rancho Cucamonga High School’s Team Purple and Summit High School’s Team Silver because of their statewide high scores, the release states.
California’s champion will go to the United States Academic Decathlon, set for May 1 through May 3, in Des Moines, Iowa.
