THE GAME: The Angels fell behind by at least five runs in the first three innings for the second straight day, on their way to an 8-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies in a Cactus League game on Monday in Tempe, Ariz.
PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Tyler Anderson was charged with four runs in 2⅓ innings. He gave up six hits, but that included two infield hits and a wind-blown pop-up. Anderson did not walk anyone. “I actually felt really good,” Anderson said. “Thank God it’s spring and the results don’t matter.” Anderson said he was particularly pleased that he threw better changeups than in his first start of the spring. … Right-hander Hans Crouse walked three, on his way to allowing two runs. Crouse had retired all six hitters he faced in his first two games, with five strikeouts. … Right-hander George Klassen gave up a solo homer and retired the other six hitters he faced, with three strikeouts. Klassen, who is one of the Angels’ top pitching prospects, has allowed one run in three innings this spring. … Left-hander Victor Gonzalez pitched a perfect inning, striking out two. The veteran reliever has retired all six hitters he’s faced in two games this spring, with four strikeouts.
HITTING REPORT: Mike Trout lined a double into left field and singled into center field. He also struck out. Trout is 3 for 8 with five walks this spring. … Yoán Moncada is still looking for his first hit of the spring, but he has now drawn six walks. He is 0 for 7. … Travis d’Arnaud hit his first home run of the spring, a drive to center field. D’Arnaud is 2 for 6 this spring. … Ryan Noda hit his first homer of the spring. Noda is fighting for a job as a backup to Nolan Schanuel.
DEFENSE REPORT: Moncada, the third baseman, hesitated on his throw after making a backhand stop, allowing the hitter to reach on an infield hit. … Shortstop Kevin Newman attempted to make a throw to first while jumping, but it wasn’t in time.
