A person at a home in Apple Valley was struck by gunfire from San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies on Monday night, Feb. 24, the department said.
The department offered little information on Tuesday, including what prompted the shooting. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said she was waiting on approval before releasing more details. That could come Tuesday or Wednesday, she said.
Orejel did say that around 10 p.m., deputies responded to a report of suspicious circumstances at a home in the 10700 block of Central Road. For reasons still undisclosed, a deputy or deputies fired on a male person, Orejel said.
Orejel declined to describe the condition of the person who was shot.
KTLA/5 said a reporter there spoke with family members, who said people ran from the house when a deputy rang a doorbell, and it was then that a boy age 16 or 17 was shot.
No deputies were injured, Orejel said.
That area of Central Road is lightly populated, with only one home in that specific block number. Phone and email messages seeking comment were left with people believed to be residents of that home.
