The San Bernardino City Unified School District’s Board of Education recently presented outstanding achievement awards to students, parents and staff from Davidson Elementary School, Del Rosa Elementary School, Serrano Middle School and Sierra High School.
The outstanding student awards honor excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts, citizenship and improvement. The board’s outstanding parent/grandparent/volunteer awards and outstanding employee awards recognize people for their dedication to student achievement and well-being, according to a news release.
Davidson Elementary School students receiving outstanding student awards at the event in April were first-grader Chase Gray-Luna and fifth-grader Jerry Howie.
Davidson Elementary’s outstanding grandparent award went to Roberto and Martha Tapia, and the outstanding employee awards went to recreational aide and parent volunteer worker Minerva Canela and to fourth-grade teacher Claudia Perez.
Del Rosa Elementary School students receiving outstanding student awards were fifth-grader Isaiah Hayes and fourth-grader Andrew Wagner.
Del Rosa’s outstanding parent award went to Cindy and Jonte Levar Washington, and the outstanding employee awards went to cafeteria manager Rosie Ramirez-Andrade and third-grade teacher Jimmy Dayonot.
Serrano Middle School students receiving outstanding student awards were seventh-grader Robert Caldera and eighth-grader Cairo Garcia.
Serrano’s outstanding parent award went to Brenda Navarrete, and the outstanding employee awards went to bilingual clerk Edna Velazquez and science teacher Mary Murphy.
Sierra High School students receiving outstanding student awards were junior Manuel “Manny” Chavez Vasquez and senior Daysha Johnson.
Sierra High’s outstanding aunt award went to Corinthia Williams, and the outstanding employee awards went to account clerk Esperanza Ochoa and teacher Rob Christie.
