An off-duty San Bernardino County firefighter died when his motorcycle crashed in Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, April 15, authorities said.
Ryan Spandrio, a Riverside County resident, was married with two young children, Eric Sherwin, a Fire Department spokesman, said Wednesday.
“He served with honor, professionalism, and courage,” the Fire Department said in a written statement. “He was a valued member at Fire Station 224 in San Bernardino, and a true public servant who demonstrated compassion and a commitment to the community.”
The crash happened around 12:15 p.m. at Railroad Canyon Road and Church Street. Spandrio died at the scene.
No other vehicle was involved, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said. No cause had been released to the public. Spandrio did not appear to be impaired, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Firefighters and law enforcement officers formed a procession, escorting Spandrio’s body to the Coroner’s Office in Perris. As they arrived, they drove beneath a giant American flag suspended between two fire trucks. Firefighters and officers saluted as the procession passed.
