San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies were clearing a hospital Wednesday night, March 12, after reports of a man with a gun in the emergency department. By around 8 p.m., authorities had learned there were no injuries and that no gunshots had been heard.
Deputies were investigating at Loma Linda University Medical Center after reports of a man armed with a gun and asked that the public avoid the area, said Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Law enforcement responded to the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, according to Molly Smith, a hospital spokesperson. The Children’s Hospital, a regional facility, has 364 beds.
Dozens of law enforcement vehicles from multiple agencies, along with police helicopters, were at the scene. It appeared officials had established a perimeter around the hospital.
The Loma Linda campus is south of San Bernardino on Anderson Street, near Barton Road, south of the 10 Freeway and east of the 215 Freeway.
The medical center is part of Loma Linda University Health, an academic medical center.
