A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after authorities found several malnourished dogs at a residence in Corona, police said in a statement on Thursday, March 20.
On March 3, at a home on East Grand Boulevard, Corona police officers and Animal Control responded to reports of dogs in need of food and medical attention, according to the Corona Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found multiple dogs on the property, many appearing injured and in need of immediate care. No food or water was seen on the premises, the police statement said.
Animal Control officers took 10 Mastiff breed dogs into their care and transported them to a local veterinarian. Two of the dogs were later euthanized due to poor health, police said.
The dogs’ owner, Joseph Frausto, told officers by phone that a family member was supposed to be caring for the animals, police said.
During the investigation, authorities found live ammunition at the residence.
Frausto, a convicted felon on probation in Los Angeles County for reckless evading, is prohibited from possessing ammunition, police said.
On Wednesday, March 19, police arrested Frausto. He was booked on suspicion of animal cruelty and illegal possession of ammunition.
Court records did not indicate if Frausto is represented by an attorney who could respond to the allegations.
