The CIF Southern Section will hold its annual swimming championship this week at the Mt. San Antonio College Aquatic Center in Walnut.
This marks the second season the top swimmers in Southern California will compete for championships at Mt. SAC’s state-of-the-art facility.
The action starts Tuesday morning with the Division 4 preliminaries at 9 a.m. The Division 3 prelims are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, with the Division 2 prelims scheduled to follow at 4 p.m. The Division 1 prelims begin Thursday at 9 a.m.
The Division 4 finals will begin Thursday at 4 p.m. The Division 3 finals are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, with the Division 2 finals scheduled to follow at 3 p.m. Action wraps up Saturday afternoon with the Division 1 finals at noon.
Tickets for each session: $12 adults; $5 students and children. Parking is $10 each day and is cash only.
Here is a closer look a the Inland area’s top boys and girls swimmers to watch at this year’s section championships.

DIVISION 1
Riverside Poly junior Ava DeAnda is the defending section and state champion in the girls 100-yard freestyle and is the top-seeded swimmer in that event this season. DeAnda finished second in the 200 freestyle at last year’s Division 1 section finals but went on to capture the state title. Santiago senior Brinley Knoll is seeded third in both the girls 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Santiago sophomore Charlotte Milkie is seeded fifth in the girls 100 and 200 freestyle events, and Santiago freshman Brooke DeMarco is seeded eighth in the girls 100 breaststroke. King sophomore Alyssa Bian is seeded sixth in the girls 100 butterfly. Santiago and Riverside Poly will be top contenders in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay, Damien junior Ryder Davis is seeded sixth in the boys 100 backstroke and eighth in the 100 butterfly.

DIVISON 2
Murrieta Valley freshman Kaylee Richmond has impressed in her debut season. She is the top seed and a heavy favorite to win championships in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Richmond also will be part of Murrieta’s Valley 400 relay team that is seeded fourth. Richmond’s older bother, junior Kaleb, is the top seed in the boys 100 freestyle and seeded sixth in the 50 freestyle. Great Oak senior Amanda Cotton is seeded fourth in the girls 100 breaststroke, and Ayala senior Riley Ogilvie is seeded fifth in the girls 500 freestyle. Riverside Poly junior Dashiell DeAnda is seeded second in the boys 500 freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle. Alta Loma junior Noah Quintero Marmol is seeded third in both the boys 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley. Redlands junior Maksim Kutsner is seeded third in the boys 100 butterfly and fourth in the 100 backstroke. Ayala senior Arthur Lin is seeded third in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Ayala’s boys are the top seed for the 400 freestyle relay and seeded third in the 200 medley relay.

DIVISON 3
Yucaipa sophomore Hunter Tamura is the defending champion in the boys 500 freestyle. He is seeded fifth in that event this season and also is seeded fifth in the 200 individual medley. Hemet junior Jaydah Godbolt is the top seed in the girls 100 backstroke and also is seeded fourth in the 50 freestyle. Norco freshman Raylene Tapia is seeded second in the girls 100 breaststroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly. Murrieta Mesa sophomore Addison Schneider is seeded second in the 200 individual medley and fourth in 500 freestyle. Liberty junior Gwen Asbury is seeded third in the girls 500 freestyle. Rancho Cucamonga junior Audrey Lee is seeded fourth in the girls 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Rancho Cucamonga’s girls are seeded second in the 400 freestyle relay and third in the 200 freestyle relay. Hemet’s girls are seeded fourth in the 200 freestyle relay.

DIVISION 4
Aquinas freshman Regina Estrada-Marval is the top seed in the girls 500 freestyle and seeded second in the 200 freestyle. Citrus Hill freshman Brooke Wiley is seeded third in both the girls 100 butterfly and backstroke. Arrowhead Christian Academy junior Juliette Early is seeded fourth in both the girls 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events. Arlington sophomore Lucy Quinto is seeded fourth in the girls 100 butterfly, while North sophomore Kelsey Flores is seeded fourth in the girls 200 individual medley. Norte Vista freshman Brooke Batdorf is seeded fifth in the girls 100 butterfly. Pacific senior Connor McAleer won the boys 100 butterfly two years ago and finished second last season. He is seeded second in that event this year. St. Jeanne de Lestonnac sophomore Emory Vorndam is seeded second in the boys 100 freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle. Loma Linda Academy sophomore Tyler Mattenson is seeded fourth in the boys 100 breaststroke, and Western Christian freshman Hudson Rosdil is seeded fifth in the boys 100 backstroke. Several teams will contend for relay titles. Canyon Springs is the top seed in both the boys and girls medley relays. Moreno Valley is top-seeded in the girls 400 freestyle relay, while Aquinas is seeded second in the girls medley relay. Beaumont (second), Aquinas (fourth) and Cajon (fifth) are highly-seeded in the girls 200 freestyle relay. Arrowhead Christian is seeded fifth in the boys 200 freestyle relay,
