THURSDAY’S TOP GAMES
Centennial (1-0) vs. Santa Margarita (0-1) at Trabuco Hills HS, 7:30 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Centennial looks for its second straight win over a Trinity League program to start the season. The Huskies rolled to a 42-14 victory over Servite last week. Dominick Catalano completed 24 of 38 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns, and Keawe Browne caught four passes for 102 yards and two scores. Zander Lewis and Malaki Davis combined to rush for 153 yards, and Davis scored three touchdowns. Safety Jaden Walk-Green led the defense with 13 tackles. Santa Margarita lost to Mission Viejo 7-3 in its opener. The Eagles are coached by former Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer. The offense features USC-bound receiver Trent Mosley, who caught 11 passes for 212 yards and scored three touchdowns in last season’s 31-15 victory over Centennial. The defense is led by linebackers Leki Holani (Sacramento State) and Dash Fifita (Arizona).

Vista del Lago (1-0) at Valley View (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
IE Varsity info: This marks the 15th meeting between these programs from Moreno Valley. Valley View owns a 9-5 edge overall, but Vista del Lago has won four straight meetings, including a 28-21 victory last year. Vista del Lago opened this season with a 21-14 win over Riverside Poly. Josiah Dupree Boyd completed 16 of 23 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown and also scored once on the ground. Jae’Lynn Brown had five catches for 113 yards for the Ravens. Linebacker Romeo Baldwin led the defense with eight tackles. Valley View took down West Valley 29-18 in last week’s season opener. Jesse Vega passed for 111 yards and two touchdowns and added 85 yards and two scores on the ground. Linebacker My’chael Johnson had nine tackles and a sack.

Los Osos (1-0) at Alta Loma (1-0), 7 p.m.
IE Varsity info: These district rivals and former Baseline League members will square off for the 21st time. Los Osos leads the series 12-8 and has won two straight meetings, including a 14-7 victory last year. Los Osos opened this season with a 42-7 win over Narbonne. Isaiah Guerrero tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Jack Abbott to lead the Grizzlies to victory. The defense features CIF Southern Section Division 8 linebacker Evan Abeln. Alta Loma cruised to a 46-0 win over Peninsula in last week’s opener. Maximus Fierro threw a pair of touchdown passes, and Izaih Brown added two touchdowns on the ground for the Lions. Linebackers Colin Boen and Alexander Rodrigo each had two sacks.

Hillcrest (1-0) at Santiago (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Hillcrest started the season with a 61-15 win over Corona at SoFi Stadium. The Trojans shined on special teams, as Matthew Ramos returned two kickoffs for touchdowns while Nico Bernal scored twice on punt returns. Reyez Ortiz rushed for 47 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns. Linebacker Issah Noor led the defense with nine tackles and also had one of the three interceptions by the Trojans. Santiago defeated Yucaipa 31-14 in last week’s opener. Clayton Plewe completed 21 of 28 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Ryan Wilson had six catches for 106 yards and hauled in both touchdown passes from Plewe. Safety Khalil Chancy led the Sharks with 16 tackles.

Cathedral (1-0) at Beaumont (1-0), 7:30 p.m.
IE Varsity info: Beaumont scored the final 44 points of the game in last week’s 51-14 victory over San Jacinto. Jeremiah Duhu passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns and added two scores on the ground. Braedon Miller had eight receptions for 153 yards and two touchdown, and Kainalu Johnston hauled in the other touchdown pass from Duhu. The Cougars are led on defense by linebackers Matthew Casas and Christian Cooper. Cathedral opened the season with a 36-14 victory over Loyola. Jaden Jefferson threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 71 yards and two scores. Safety Kayden Brooks led the Phantoms’ defense with eight tackles and an interception.
