A 30-year-old Colton driver suspected of DUI has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after a 19-year-old man was hit by multiple vehicles and died in early May, authorities said.
Shortly before 7 a.m. on May 2, Colton Police officers responded to a collision in the 1700 block of East Washington Street and Center Drive. Officers and emergency medical personnel found a man who had been hit by multiple vehicles while trying to cross the street.
The pedestrian, 19-year-old Larenz Laamar Fondren of Highland, died at the scene.
Antonio Dominguez Medrano was arrested on suspicion of committing vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence. He posted bail and was released from custody.
Almost two months later, following an investigation, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office filed charges and an arrest warrant was issued. On Friday morning, June 27, detectives with the Colton Police Department found Medrano in Beaumont, where he was taken into custody, according to a news release.
The release didn’t say how many other cars struck Fondren, or how it was determined that Medrano’s car was the one that killed him.
“My heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the victim, Larenz Fondren. Sadly, his life was tragically taken by an act of vehicular recklessness,” Police Chief Anthony Vega said in the release.
