INGLEWOOD – Quarterback Corin Berry threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score and running back JD Sanchez scored twice for Charter Oak in a 33-23 win over Upland in a nonleague football game Thursday night at SoFi Stadium.
Both teams produced lots of offense to entertain the large contingent of fans in attendance at the home for the NFL’s Rams and Chargers.

Charter Oak (2-0) finished with 330 yards (200 passing, 130 rushing), while the Scots (0-2) had 278 yards (168 passing, 110 rushing) for 608 total yards in the game.
Berry’s favorite target was senior receiver Antonio Reasby, who caught four passes for a game-high 139 yards and a touchdown. Sanchez ran for 49 yards on seven carries, while senior running back Tristan Taylor had 46 yards on six carries.
“All of us are so grateful for this opportunity to play at SoFi,” Berry said. “Of course, it’s an NFL stadium where the Rams and Chargers play and it’s a special place to play football.”
Upland junior quarterback Lequand Jackson threw for 168 yards, completing 14 of 22 passes with two touchdowns. Berry was 6 of 8 passing for 199 yards and ran for a game-high 66 yards on 12 carries.
“It’s an unreal experience to be able to come out here and play here in SoFi Stadium,” Jackson said. “Not many people get the chance to do it and I got that chance (Thursday).”
Charter Oak coach Dominic Farrar said he was thinking about his father and legendary coach Lou Farrar on Thursday, before and after the game at SoFi.
“First and foremost, my hat goes off to D.T. (Upland coach Darryl Thomas) and assistant coach Albert Rodriguez,” Farrar said. “This game, this week at this stadium, when he called me (to play at SoFi) it was all put together in a short week.
“We’re humbled right now about the challenge that we faced, but the opportunity that we took advantage of.”
Berry started fast with a 61-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Damian Huff with just four minutes gone in the opening quarter.
“On my first touchdown to him (Huff), it was great, especially for him in his senior year and he makes a play in this stadium and this type of atmosphere,” said Berry, of his first TD pass.
Upland took a 7-6 lead with a 1-yard run by senior running back Nicholas Bester, who finished the game with 22 yards on four carries.
Jackson extended the lead to 13-6 on a 35-yard TD pass to junior wide receiver Dane Gosserand (two receptions, 57 yards, 2 TDs) late in the first quarter.
Berry and Sanchez scored on 1- and 5-yard runs to give the Chargers a 20-13 lead in the second quarter.
At the end of the second quarter, the Scots tied the game, 20-20, with a 22-yard reception by Gosserand.
“This week it was push comes to shove,” Sanchez said. “I knew that my team was going to need me this week in order to come out victorious and I gave it my all. I’m grateful to be able to play here in SoFi Stadium.”
The Chargers scored twice in the third quarter, first on a 52-yard TD pass to Reasby and then on an 11-yard run by Sanchez.
Sandwiched between the two Charter Oak scores was a 29-yard field goal by Upland junior kicker Jackson Hauducoeur.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these kids,” said Upland coach Darryl Thomas. “We’re doing it for the kids, and they’ll never be able to play in SoFi again.
“(Jackson) did a real good job and he’s learning, but definitely his legs were strong and I’m glad Dane (Gosserand) got in the end zone twice.”
