By SUSAN MONTOYA BRYAN ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A Texas man has been charged with buying fireworks that he allegedly planned to use against law enforcement officers and government officials during recent immigration protests in California. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the district of New Mexico announced the charges Wednesday, saying 48-year-old Grzegorz Vandenberg visited a store in southwestern New Mexico to purchase fireworks and asked employees for the largest explosives possible. According to court records, the man allegedly told store employees that he had previously served in the military’s special forces and could make pipe bombs. He said he was…
President Donald Trump hints at possibly withholding wildfire aid to California – San Bernardino Sun
President Donald Trump on Wednesday, June 18, hinted at the possibility that his latest feud with Gov. Gavin Newsom over mass federal immigration raids – and the use of military troops to protect federal buildings and agents as they carry out those enforcement actions – could impact additional wildfire aid to California. Asked by a reporter if his latest “dust-ups” with Newsom could impact relief aid to help California recover from the devastating January wildfires, Trump said, “Yeah, maybe.” “Hatred is never a good thing in politics,” Trump went on to say. “When you don’t like somebody, you don’t respect…
VAN NUYS — A judge today confirmed an arbitrator’s award of nearly $1.4 million to a businessman who sued Reggie Bush for defamation after having settled a previous suit against the former Heisman Trophy winner and USC running back. Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Eric Harmon heard arguments in plaintiff Lloyd Lake’s petition, briefly took the issues under submission and issued his final ruling later in the day Wednesday. According to Lake’s petition, arbitrator Jeffrey G. Benz on April 12 awarded him $500,000, plus $764,640 in attorneys’ fees and about $116,780 in costs. Bush’s attorneys argued that the award should…

By BRUCE SCHREINER FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — President Donald Trump’s administration has asked a federal judge to strike down a Kentucky regulation that it says unlawfully gives undocumented immigrants access to in-state college tuition. The U.S. Justice Department’s lawsuit says the regulation violates federal immigration law by enabling undocumented students to qualify for the lower tuition rate at Kentucky’s public colleges and universities, while American citizens from other states pay higher tuition to attend the same schools. “Federal law prohibits aliens not lawfully present in the United States from getting in-state tuition benefits that are denied to out-of-state U.S. citizens.…
NEW YORK — The Angels continue to have a mixed bag of imperfect pieces they are trying to wedge into right field while Mike Trout remains locked into the DH spot. Jorge Soler, who is primarily a DH, has been playing most of the time in right field lately, but on Wednesday he came up with a stiff back. That led Manager Ron Washington to put Luis Rengifo into right. Rengifo has played 32 games in right in his major league career, but for only three innings since 2023. “The reports I got from the organization are that Rengifo can…
By CHRIS MEGERIAN and DARLENE SUPERVILLE WASHINGTON (AP) — The American flag has long flown from a pole on the White House roof, but that’s always been too small for President Donald Trump, who wants everything to be bigger and more beautiful. On Wednesday, massive new flagpoles were erected on the North and South Lawns of the White House. “It’s such a beautiful pole,” Trump said as workers used a crane to install the latest addition to the South Lawn. He returned to the same spot later in the day, saluting as the stars and stripes were hoisted for the…
