The Clippers’ postseason positioning rests with one game, one last chance, one final opportunity to land a coveted top-six seed. And if they miss, if they lose their regular-season finale on Sunday, the Clippers would likely – but not definitely – be staring at a spot in the Play-In Tournament, where the Nos. 7-10 teams battle for the final two seeds in the Western Conference playoff bracket. All that stands in their way are the Golden State Warriors. “High stakes, huh?” Clippers center Ivica Zubac said to reporters after Friday’s one-point victory against the Sacramento Kings. “It’s been like that…

CARSON — The night to honor their 30th season got off to a dreadful start. Before the 15th-minute mark, the Galaxy trailed the Houston Dynamo. Before the 30th-minute mark, the Galaxy were down to 10 men after defender Mathias “Zanka” Jorgensen was issued a red card. However, the Galaxy managed to survive the early doom and gloom and escape Saturday with a hard-earned point in a 1-1 draw in front of 23,685 at Dignity Health Sports Park. Although it is another winless night to start the season (0-5-3), considering the circumstances, the Galaxy is good with the point. The Galaxy…
In J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, the One Ring is no mere trinket. Forged in the fires of Mount Doom by the Dark Lord Sauron, it promises power beyond imagination—to rule, to shape, to control. Yet, its nature is singular: it can only serve evil. Even those with noble intentions, like Boromir, who dream of wielding it to protect their people, fail to grasp its truth. The Ring twists every ambition, every good intention, into tyranny and ruin. Today, in Washington, D.C., we see a parallel: politicians wielding the expansive power of big government as if it were…

James Sofronas had a comfortable lead when his Audi R8 LMS GT3 stopped on the front stretch near the start-finish line. Rothberg came out of the hairpin on Turn 11 and passed Sofronas for the lead. The final two laps were completed under caution. “I would rather finish the race under green. It feels better,” said Rothberg, driver of the BMW M4 GT3 EVO for Turner Motorsports.…

HOUSTON — The most memorable out of Tyler Anderson’s gem was an out that he didn’t even get. Anderson took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and recently homer happy Angels hit two more in a 4-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday night. The lasting image of the game, though, will be an Astros fan grabbing a foul ball out of Mike Trout’s glove as he tried to make a catch. Trout leaped and reached over the wall to snag a ball hit by Yainer Diaz. Before he pulled the ball back, though, the fan yanked it out…
