LOS ANGELES — UCLA’s spring football camp has begun its third week, and in the background, the coaching staff is bracing for changes that could be brought about by the ongoing legal case known as House vs. NCAA. The House settlement will decide whether or not schools share revenue with student-athletes and determine the size of a team based on roster limits rather than scholarships. Offseason roster planning isn’t as routine as in previous years with such a big potential change on the horizon. “There’s contingency plans, no matter what,” tight ends coach Jerry Neuheisel told reporters on Monday. “I…

By FATIMA HUSSEIN, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Taxpayers calling the IRS for help processing their taxes this filing season may find it harder than normal to get someone on the phone, experts say, a problem that is only expected to get worse next year with staffing cuts that could slash the workforce considerably. For this year, data of tax return processing times shows numbers largely in line with those from last year. IRS employees involved in the 2025 tax season were not allowed to accept a buyout offer from the Trump administration until after the taxpayer filing deadline of April 15,…

By CLAIRE RUSH and GARY FIELDS WASHINGTON (AP) — Community celebrations being planned to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary next year are at risk of being significantly scaled back or canceled because of federal funding cuts under President Donald Trump’s administration, according to multiple state humanities councils across the country. The councils have been working on programming for America250, an initiative marking the milestone anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. But the Republican administration’s deep cost-cutting effort across the federal government has led the National Endowment for the Humanities to cancel its grants for state…

Harvard University is standing up to the Trump administration, as the feds pressure the Cambridge school to end DEI programs and “audit” the viewpoints of its student body, faculty, and staff. Harvard on Monday announced that it’s rejecting a list of demands from the Trump admin. This comes as the feds threaten to cut more $8.7 billion in multi-year grant commitments to Harvard and its affiliates amid an antisemitism investigation. “The university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights,” Harvard’s lawyers wrote to the Trump admin in a letter. “Neither Harvard nor any other private university can…

By WYATTE GRANTHAM-PHILIPS, AP Business Writer Confusion over President Donald Trump’s tariffs remains following a weekend of questions around trade in consumer electronics. On Friday the Trump administration paused its new taxes on electronics imported into the U.S. — signaling some relief from trade wars that have particularly escalated with China, a major exporter of technology from smartphones to laptops. But these goods remain subject to other levies. And officials have also indicated that additional, sector-specific tariffs targeting electronics are on the way — all of which economists warn will raise costs and lead to higher prices for consumers. Here’s…

By CHRISTINE FERNANDO WASHINGTON (AP) — As Kristan Hawkins, president of the national anti-abortion group Students for Life, tours college campuses, she has grown accustomed to counterprotests from abortion rights activists. But more recently, fellow abortion opponents, who call themselves abortion abolitionists, are showing up to her booths with signs, often screaming “baby killer” at her while she speaks with students. Hawkins has had to send alerts to donors asking them to help pay for increased security. “I’m pretty sure they protest me more than they protest Planned Parenthood,” Hawkins said. “Believe it or not, I now know the price…
