A man driving a stolen pickup truck crashed into several vehicles before being tackled by police after a foot chase in Upland on Saturday, Feb. 22, police said.
Around 11 a.m., the Ontario Police Department alerted Upland Police Department that a Ford F-150, which had been reported stolen to the Montebello Police Department, had entered the city, police said in a statement.
With the assistance of Ontario’s helicopter, officers located the truck near Mountain Avenue and Arrow Highway. The driver did not stop, and a pursuit began.
The suspect drove southbound on Benson Avenue and ran a red light, crashing into a dark-colored vehicle making a left turn, Upland Police Sgt. Marcie Williams said.
The collision fractured the other driver’s vertebrae and he was taken to the hospital. As of Wednesday afternoon, the victim was given a “good prognosis,” Williams said.
The truck crashed into another two vehicles as it entered a commercial parking lot, Williams said. Details about these drivers’ injuries were not immediately available.
The suspect finally came to a stop near a Jiffy Lube and fled on foot. Officers chased after him, jumping over fences of nearby businesses, and eventually tackled the suspect.
The suspect, whose identity was not released, sustained minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of several felonies, including felony evading causing injury. He is being held on $1 million bail.
