Two people were injured in Moreno Valley on Sunday, Feb. 9 after a 23-year-old suspected of driving under the influence collided with a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle.
The collision occurred around 2:20 a.m. in the 25000 block of Alessandro Boulevard, east of Perris Boulevard, Sheriff’s Lt. Deirdre Vickers said.
Details on the circumstances leading up to the crash, including how fast the suspect was driving, were not released. Footage by freelance news agency OnScene.TV showed the deputy’s patrol car sustained major front-end damage. The other driver’s black car also had major damage.
Authorities arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of driving under the influence. He did not sustain any injuries, according to Vickers.
His passenger suffered significant injuries and was hospitalized in an unknown condition. The deputy was also treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
