JURUPA VALLEY — A 21-year-old man hospitalized after a Jurupa Valley shooting later died and a second suspect was arrested, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday.
The shooting was reported Monday around 12:20 a.m. in the area of Golden West Avenue and Condor Drive in Jurupa Valley, south of Mission Boulevard and the 60 Freeway. Responding deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and provided medical aid before paramedics rushed him to a hospital, sheriff’s officials said.
Twenty-one-year-old Jose Martinez-Contreras died from his wounds, sheriff’s officials said Sunday.
The department’s Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as Lorenzo Howse Jr. of Bloomington, 19, a community in San Bernardino County.
Howse was arrested Friday with assistance from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Division and the Riverside sheriff’s Major Crime Unit after a search warrant was conducted at his residence.
Howse was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center, where he was being held without bail on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery, according to the Riverside County inmate database. His first court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
Detectives arrested a second suspect Sunday, identified as 19-year-old Jurupa Valley resident Darnell White, sheriff’s officials said. White was arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for suspicion of murder and robbery. His bail amount was not specified.
