Four San Bernardino County students got more than a trophy from the science fair this year.
They earned full-ride scholarships to Arizona State University.

The teens’ prizes came after they competed in May in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair in Columbus, Ohio, a San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools news release states.
They were among eight students from the county to attend the event.
The students had previously taken top honors at the San Bernardino | Inyo | Mono Science and Engineering Fair.
The county’s full scholarship winners, who will share in nearly half a million dollars, are:
- Tyler Kalanjian, who will be a junior next school year at Redlands East Valley High School in the Redlands Unified School District
- Zackary Lewis, also an incoming junior at Redlands East Valley High
- Leila Maleki, an incoming junior at Chino High School in the Chino Valley Unified School District
- Michael Stodelle, who will be a sophomore next year at Redlands East Valley High
These students were recognized for “demonstrating innovation, research excellence and real-world problem-solving skills,” the release states.
