ARLINGTON, Texas — Azura Stevens had 21 points, including a career-high five 3-pointers, Dearica Hamby added 20 points, and the Sparks beat the short-handed Dallas Wings, 93-79, on Friday night to snap a three-game losing streak.
Hamby and Stevens each reached 20-plus points for the fourth time this season. Odyssey Sims, who was coming off a 32-point performance in an 85-80 loss to Phoenix on Sunday, added 19 points and three 3-pointers for the Sparks.
The Sparks took a 45-40 lead at halftime after Sims converted a three-point play with 2.2 seconds left.
The Sparks started the third quarter on a 6-0 run and added a 9-0 run to begin the fourth for a 76-55 lead. The Wings had three turnovers and two missed shots in the opening three minutes of the fourth.
Stevens reached her career high on 3-pointers with 4:45 left in the fourth on a wide-open shot from the corner off a nice drive and pass by Kelsey Plum.
Plum had 11 points, nine assists and five rebounds and Rickea Jackson scored 10 points for the Sparks (3-6), who improved to 1-1 in the Commissioner’s Cup standings.
DiJonai Carrington scored 16 points and JJ Quinerly had a career-high 14 off the bench for Dallas (1-8), which played without No. 1 draft pick Paige Bueckers and fellow point guard Tyasha Harris, who are both out as they work their way back from concussions.
Luisa Geiselsoder contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double, and Kaila Charles added 10 points.
The Sparks used a 9-0 run capped by Hamby’s running layup at the 6:40 mark of the first period to take a 13-5 lead. Plum’s layup with 2:23 left in the quarter pushed the advantage to nine points before the visitors settled for a 21-17 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Stephens’ 3-pointer midway through the second period stretched the Sparks’ lead to 34-24 but Dallas responded and cut its deficit to 37-35 when Myisha Hines-Allen converted a layup with 1:48 left in the first half. Stephens responded with another 3-pointer and Sims added her late layup for the five-point halftime lead.
Dallas has allowed 90-plus points three times during its four-game losing streak.
