A high school teacher in Redlands was arrested in Riverside on Tuesday night on suspicion of sexually abusing a minor, police said.
The Riverside Police Department began an investigation on Sunday after receiving a call that a minor reported being sexually abused, according to Riverside PD spokesperson Officer Ryan Railsback. The minor is not a student of the teacher, Railsback said.
Following his arrest Elvin Vereau, 52, a resident of Riverside, was placed on administrative leave by the Redlands Unified School District on Tuesday, according to a news release, pending further investigation. He was a temporary teacher at Citrus Valley High School.
Vereau has been employed with RUSD since July 2013, according to the release.
