MORENO VALLEY — A 22-year-old man was fatally shot in Moreno Valley, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday.
Deputies responded to the 13600 block of Daimler Street, west of Lasselle Street and south of Cottonwood Avenue, around 2:50 p.m. Saturday to an assault with a deadly weapon call. They located the victim, identified as Xavier Cox, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Deputies and paramedics rendered medical aid to Cox before he was taken to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives assumed the investigation and took “the individual responsible for the shooting” to the sheriff’s station to speak with investigators, a sheriff’s statement said. According to the sheriff’s department, the individual was cooperative with the investigation and was later released. No identifying details of that person were provided.
The investigation was ongoing and transferred to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review.
The sheriff’s department said the shooting was an isolated incident and there was no threat to the public.
