Two women were killed and a 1-year-old child was hospitalized with major injuries on Saturday, March 22 following a wrong-way crash involving a suspected DUI driver in Pomona.
The crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on the 60 Freeway near the 71 Freeway. Officials identified the wrong-way driver as 24-year-old Rick Rodriguez from Pomona, who was reportedly seen driving a 2013 Honda Accord eastbound on the westbound lanes of the 60 Freeway before he collided with multiple vehicles just west of Reservoir Street.
According to a preliminary investigation, Rodriguez collided head-on with a 2018 Honda Civic, spun out of control, and subsequently struck a 2019 Toyota Highlander.

The driver of the 2018 Honda Civic, a 29-year-old woman from Huntington Park, and her 39-year-old passenger died from their injuries. A 1-year-old child who was also in the car suffered major injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital of Orange County, the California Highway Patrol said. The driver of the second car, a 47-year-old woman from Commerce, had minor injuries.
Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He was released from jail for medical treatment after he suffered major injuries from the crash.
All westbound lanes on the 60 Freeway between Ramona Boulevard and east of Garey Avenue have reopened after they were closed from 11:40 p.m. until 4:03 a.m. on Sunday.
